# Hiring employees

You do not have to write every role yourself. The catalog at hr.harnsy.dev has ready-made employees: a role with its text, its launch setting and its competencies. You hire one into your company, and then put it on a team. What the catalog offers is on \[hr.harnsy.dev\](https://hr.harnsy.dev).

## Hire one yourself

1. On the dashboard press “Hire an employee” (it is on the Roles page and on the Organizations overview, under Employees). harnsy reads the list from hr.harnsy.dev.
2. Pick one. You see the whole role before anything is added: its name, its full prompt text, its launch setting and its competencies (“in the library” or “new”).
3. Under “Name in the catalog” give it a name (“Check the name” shows if it is taken). Press “Hire”.
4. The window says what it will do: it adds the role to your company’s catalog and, if you chose a project, puts it into that project’s staff with one seat.

Hiring adds a role to your company’s catalog. It does not start an agent. You, or the lead, put the role on a team: Roles › “Add a role”; the lead opens its seat.

**From a file.** “From a .harnsy file…” hires from a bundle someone gave you; you see everything in it before anything is added. An entry not signed by harnsy shows “Not verified by harnsy: read the role below before you hire it. Its text instructs every agent on the role.” A version harnsy has withdrawn says so.

**Your lead can hire too.** A team’s lead reads the catalog and asks you with a hire card in the chat and on Home. You press to hire. In the first run, the lead picks the smallest team and you press to hire.

**Check for updates.** On Organizations, the Employees tab, “Check for updates” asks the catalog for newer versions of the employees you hired. It says either that every one is on the latest version, or “An update for N employee(s)” with “What’s new” and “Update…”. In the update window you choose, field by field, to keep yours or take the catalog’s (Prompt, Mandate, Deliverable, Character, Launch, Picture, Persona, Competencies). Earlier versions stay under Versions. “Ask the lead…” lets the lead update it once, within 24 hours; you can withdraw it.

**What goes out.** By design, harnsy sends hr.harnsy.dev only a request with its version, as `harnsy/<version>`: no license key and nothing about your projects or agents. Like any web server, hr.harnsy.dev sees your IP address; see the privacy notice of the catalog (hr downloads). A build without the catalog key does not call it: hire from a `.harnsy` file instead. If hiring is off, the window says why.
