# The lead and the roles

A harnsy team is a lead and a set of roles. You talk to the lead; the lead turns your request into work for the others.

**Roles.** Each agent holds one role: lead, analyst, developer, tester and so on. A role has a document, written once and versioned, that says what the role does and how. An agent reads its role document when it starts, and the lead is told when it changes.

**Add a role.** Open the project, go to the “Roles” block, press “Add a role”, pick a role from the catalog, set the number of seats and press “Add”. (“Not listed? Create it in Catalog.”) Or press “Hire an employee” to take a ready-made role from the catalog at hr.harnsy.dev (see Hiring), or ask the lead.

**The lead.** One lead for a team. A “Lead” tab and button sit on every dashboard page (Ctrl+\, or ⌘\ on a Mac) and open the lead’s chat and terminal. When dictation is turned on you can dictate with Ctrl+Shift+Space. From your phone you can reach the lead through Claude Code’s own Remote Control, which works only when the lead runs on your Claude Code sign-in and not on an API key; harnsy Max adds harnsy’s own phone access.

**What each agent runs on.** Every role has a “Launch” setting: which AI program, then which model, then how much reasoning effort. It is set in the role’s project, team, project, template, organization or node, in that order of priority.

**See the team.** The dashboard shows the team, who holds each role and what is waiting for you.

Since harnsy 0.1.
