A helper for harnsy that only proposes.
The Assistant is built into harnsy. Ask it how something works, to set something up, or to put an idea in a project’s backlog. When a change touches a project’s files, it shows you the change and nothing happens until you press Apply.
Add a rule to acme-shop: run the e2e tests before every release.
That goes in the project’s text. I can’t change it myself, so here is the change for you to apply.

It knows harnsy and every project on the machine.
The Assistant reads harnsy’s own guide and settings, and sees the teams, boards, agents and what waits for you across all your projects. It sits in a project of its own, alone, with no lead and no team.
Ask in a panel.
Open the Assistant’s panel in the dashboard and talk. You can also talk to it in its own terminal, or, with harnsy Max, write “@assistant” in your private chat.
You press Apply.
To change a text file of a project, or to suggest a task to another project’s lead, the Assistant files a proposal. harnsy shows you the exact change, applies it only when you press Apply, and tells the Assistant your decision. It never edits agents’ own files, hook files or secrets.
A backlog for you.
Tell the Assistant an idea for another project and it lands in that project’s lead’s backlog, marked as coming from the Assistant at your word. Nobody takes it until you or the lead decide to.
What it never does.
The Assistant does not read or change keys, tokens, passwords, the license or connections. It does not run your actions, answer another agent’s permission request, or delete anything. It never accepts another agent’s work for you: that stays your decision on the task’s card.
In your private chat too.
With harnsy Max, mark one Telegram or Discord bot as the Assistant’s and yourself as its owner, and you can write to the Assistant from your phone. From there it can put an agent to sleep or wake it, finish an agent, disband a team and decide items; anything else it only proposes. See Messengers.
Limits, honestly
- The Assistant is not an agent of your team: it has no lead and does not take tasks from the board.
- It changes or drops only the tasks it created or those on its own board.
- A proposal cannot touch agents’ and hook files, secrets, anything outside a project, binary or huge files, and it cannot delete or run anything.
- It answers in the dashboard, its terminal and, with harnsy Max, your private chat; not in groups and not in other people’s chats.
- The panel and Apply work only in the dashboard on this machine, not through access from outside and not from a phone.

Installing takes one sentence to your agent. To open agents for you, harnsy drives a terminal: tmux on Linux and macOS, its own terminal host on Windows.
